Mason Jar Flower Vase

Let's Do This!
Step 1:
- Use scissors to snip a flour sack about ½" past the hem.
- Start at the snip and rip the flour sack along the whole length to remove the hem. Discard the hem. Note: This technique will ensure a straight edge and works with woven fabrics.
- Measure over about 1 ½" from the raw edge and use scissors to make another snip.
- Start at the snip and rip the flour sack along the whole length to make a long strip. Repeat to make a second strip.
Step 2:
- Remove the lid from the mason jar.
- Brush deco podge over the mason jar, starting at the top and working your way down.
Step 3:
- Press a flour sack strip into the wet deco podge at the top of the jar. Wrap it around the top.
- Slightly overlap the starting point and cut to remove excess. Use deco podge to secure the loose end of the strip.
Step 4:
- Brush deco podge around the jar, under the top flour sack strip.
- Press another flour sack strip into the wet deco podge and wrap it around the jar.
- Slightly overlap the starting point and cut to remove excess. Use deco podge to secure the loose end of the strip. Tip: Try to match seams in the back.
- Continue applying deco podge and adding strips until the jar is covered. Be sure to wrap the strips under the bottom edge of the jar for a finished look.
Step 5:
- Mix one drop of green food coloring and one drop of blue food coloring into one tablespoon of water.
- In a small bowl, mix three tablespoons of deco podge with one drop of the diluted food coloring from 5A. Tip: Add more of the food coloring for a darker look.
- Paint the colored deco podge onto the fabric on the mason jar.
- Let the jar dry completely.
Step 6:
- Print out the flower template and cut it out close to the edge of the image.
- Lay the image face up and apply a coat of deco podge to coat it.
- Lay the wet, deco podged image face down onto the mason jar. Tip: Place the image on the opposite side of the jar from the fabric seams.
- Use your fingers to firmly press the image against the jar. Let the jar dry completely.
Step 7:
- Use a wet finger to gently rub the paper in a circular motion. This will begin to remove the paper, and you will start to see the image peek through. Do this across the whole piece of paper.
- Continue wetting your finger and rubbing the paper to gently remove another layer.
- Dip your finger in a little bit of oil (baby or cooking) and gently rub it on the image in a circular motion. You will really see the image darken during this step.
- Tie a 32" piece of jute around the rim of the mason jar.
