What You'll Need:

  • 5" x 7" Frame
  • Crafter’s Closet Sparkling Gems Detail Strips
  • White Spray Paint
  • Crafter’s Closet Jumbo Rainbow Craft Sticks
  • Crafter’s Closet Black Permanent Paint Marker
  • Masking Tape
  • ¾" White Ribbon
  • 1 3/8" Colored Ribbon
  • Crafter’s Closet Hot Glue Gun
  • Crafter’s Closet Hot Glue Sticks
  • Crafter’s Closet Precision Scissors

Let's Do This!

Step 1:

  1. Remove the backing and glass from a 5" x 7" frame.
  2. Add self-adhesive gems along the edge of the frame.
  3. Spray paint the frame white. Let dry.

Step 2:

  1. Lay eight craft sticks horizontally on a flat surface as shown. Make sure they are touching each other.
  2. Cover the craft sticks with masking tape. Run the masking tape strips in the opposite direction of the craft sticks. Note: This will be the back of the heart.
  3. Print and then cut out the heart template. Trace the heart template onto the masking tape.
  4. Cut out the heart. Tip: You can use sandpaper to smooth any sharp edges, if needed.

Step 3:

  1. Cut two craft sticks into pieces that will fit on the back of the heart and help support the shape. Hot glue them in place.
  2. Cut two 30" pieces of 1 3/8" wide ribbon.
  3. Fold the ribbon in half.
  4. Hot glue the folded ribbon to the back of the heart at the top.

Step 4:

  1. Cut the ends off two coordinating craft sticks so that the remaining piece is 4" long for each.
  2. Write love sentiments onto the craft sticks with a black paint marker and then hot glue them onto the heart, as shown.

Step 5:

  1. Cut twelve 2 ½" pieces of 1 ¾" wide ribbon.
  2. Cut twelve 1 ½" pieces of ¾" ribbon.

Step 6:

Note: Assembly is the same for BOTH ribbon widths. We made one large and two small roses for our finished piece.

  1. Add a dot of hot glue to the top corners of a ribbon piece.
  2. Fold the glued corners down towards the center. Note: Be careful not to burn your fingers!
  3. Add a dot of hot glue to the bottom points of the ribbon piece.
  4. Fold the points in towards the center. Repeat Step 6 for all of the ribbon pieces.

Step 7:

  1. Adhere the petals together by slightly overlapping each ribbon piece of the same width and hot gluing them in a long strip.
  2. Flip the strip over and run a bead of hot glue along the bottom edge. Tip: Work quickly so the hot glue does not set up.
  3. Roll the strip of petals to create the rose.
  4. Repeat the process with the petals of the other ribbon width.

Step 8:

  1. Hot glue the roses to the heart, as shown.
  2. Loop the ribbon around the frame and tie the heart to the frame.
